Black Rocks is south of Cromford, just off the B5036. There is a large car parking area on the left - recommend that you DO NOT park here but carry on up the road a little further, and take the next turn left. Go past the small parking area on your left and continue past the toilet block to the higher car park. Here there is direct access on to the trail.

The car park surface is of a concrete type with shingle in places. There is parking for approximately 20 vehicles. No “Pay & Display” charges but there is an “Honesty Box”.

There are toilet facilities just a few yards away from the car park. There is an accessible toilet for people with disabilities, however, there is a one inch step at the entrance to the toilet.

At the time of visiting I found all but one of the picnic tables inaccessible as they were sited on ground where there were exposed tree roots, making this very difficult for wheelchair users to access.

Access to the picnic area (by toilets) is via the track and not via the path parallel with the road due to the raised picnic area. See drawing below.

There is direct access onto the track from the upper car park. From this point, the track is ¾ mile in length in both a north easterly and south westerly direction. This is a relatively short route in comparison to other sections of the track, but well worth the effort. The views over Matlock and Matlock Bath are spectacular.

The surface of the track is relatively firm and compact (see picture opposite - cycle tyre in view in corner of photo).
