Thorpe to Mapleton Lane

Location and parking

Thorpe car park is situated 2½ miles north of Ashbourne. The stone surface is uneven in places. A hedge separates the car park and track. (See picture opposite).

There are 3 picnic tables, 2 on a grassed area on the car park side and one at the side of the track.

Note: There are no toilet facilities.

The Track

Thorpe to Mapleton Lane - distance 2 miles

This section of track is slightly less smooth and narrower than those north of Thorpe. The surface is hard and compact with drain covers sunk flush with the track for the first mile. Mainly tree lined there are occasional viewing points along the way and an abundance of wild flowers.

¼ mile north of Mapleton Lane is a steep incline (1 in 9). See picture opposite.

I personally did not attempt this incline as I would have found the return journey very difficult.

There are also refreshments and information available.

The toilet block has an accessible toilet for people with disabilities.

The Pay & Display car park has a smooth tarmac surface and is free to blue badge holders.
