Location, parking and toilet facilities
The Goyt Valley is situated approximately 2 miles NW of Buxton off the main A5004, turning off at the minor road signposted “Goyt Valley”. ½ a mile down the incline towards the valley is a car park on the left, near to a large pool and on the right side of the road, a few yards further down is another car park which gives easy access to the track. Take care as you turn into this car park. At my time of visiting (autumn 2006), there were large pot holes at the entrance, although the rest of the car park surface was in better condition but still quite rough and stony.
There used to be accessible toilet facilities at Bunsal Cob, which is half a mile further down the incline. However, these appear to have closed due to their filthy and dilapidated state.
Goyt Valley - distance 1 mile outward journey
Once in your chair, handcycle etc., exit the car park at the opposite end to the entrance. Cross the road to the gate (see photo opposite). Beware! This is a very popular and busy road.
The first two thirds of the track surface is hard, compact and level with gravel chippings (see Pic.1 below), while the last third of the track is mainly grass which can become very muddy and uneven (see Pic.2 below).
There is a seat ¼ of a mile from the start of the track and a wooden bench ¼ of a mile from the end of the track (closed tunnel).
Although parts of this track can be difficult to negotiate at times, the splendid views make the effort very worthwhile. If you have binoculars, bring them along too!

About 50 yards from the start of the track is a barrier across the track (see photo right, with closer view far right). There is ample room for wheelchairs and electric scooters to get past.
